The Glory and Empire system is a fresh look at grand tactical command, maneuver and combat during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Periods. The system is focused on command, maneuver and combat and is designed to be fast playing, yet accurate and rich with detail. The system is a hex and counter game with a scale of 125m per hex. Units are battalions and companies for infantry, regiments and squadrons for cavalry and companies for artillery. Each strength point is 100 men for infantry, 50 men and horses for cavalry or one section, or 2 guns, for artillery.
The rules consist of a Soldier’s, Battalion and Brigade rules sets each with increasing detail. They can be thought of as starter, intermediate and advanced rules sets. Players can learn the fundamentals of Napoleonic era combat with the Soldier’s Game rules, then move to a full fledged battalion level simulation with the Battalion Game rules. Players wanting to really understand how grand tactical maneuvering was practiced on the battlefield during the 18th and 19th centuries can learn the Brigade Game rules.
