The Thanatar Siege-automata is a mobile artillery platform rather than a general battle unit, with a heavy frame built to accommodate its huge weaponry and requisite power systems. The Thanatar-Cavas configuration is armed with a Hellex pattern plasma mortar, a terrifying weapon that launches spheres of plasma into the heart of enemy fortifications.

The Triaros is the primary armoured battlefield transport of the Mechanicum Taghmata in the Age of Darkness, relying on unique technologies held as arcana by the magos autokrator and never divulged for wider Imperial use, even by the Legiones Astartes.

The Thallax are hulking, heavily augmented cyborg shock troops originating within the Ordo Reductor faction of the Mechanicum. They are distinguished by the Lorica Thallax which encases their major organs, nervous system, and cerebrum, and entirely replaces the skeleton and limbs with armoured mechanical systems. Carried into battle by their Incunabulan jet packs, the Thallax operate with a surgical lack of emotion, leveraging their remaining capacity for independent thought to destroy the enemies of the Omnissiah.

An Archmagos Prime is a commander of the Taghmata Omnissiah – a high adept of the Machine Cult, chosen from amongst their peers to lead in battle, armed and girded for war with the finest armaments and defences their arcane arts can provide. Each is as formidable in their own way as the superhuman Legiones Astartes, and their inhuman intelligence and power spawned of ancient science is not to be underestimated.

The Castellax Battle-automata are general purpose combat robots, developed from older designs during the Great Crusade. Primarily intended for siege work and shock assaults, these terrifying, humanoid machines stand three times the height of a man, with notoriously aggressive and responsive machine spirits. The Castellax class is a mainstay of both the Legio Cybernetica and the elite defensive formations of many forge worlds, who rely on its formidable power, armoured endoskeleton, and atomantic shielding technology for their protection.

Tech-thralls are a source of expendable labour on many forge worlds, typically created from those poor souls who transgress against their Tech-Priest masters. In times of war, this same fate befalls many in order to quickly raise a form of disposable militia, known as the adsecularis. The organic human bodies of the tech-thralls, already altered to lift heavy loads and function in hostile environments, are fitted with basic weapons systems and bodily protection. On the battlefield they serve as expendable troops, unskilled but relentless and indefatigable – an army of the alive-yet-dead,

Having declared its secession from Imperial rule at the very dawn of the Horus Heresy, Mars sat like a viper upon the doorstep of the Loyalist Throneworld – a locus of industry which toiled ceaselessly in preparation for the inevitable Traitor assault upon Terra. The Sabre is a light, fast-moving tank that mounts devastating weaponry for its size, developed by the Legiones Astartes to deploy heavy firepower at speed. The bulk of its chassis is occupied by a primary weapon, such as an Anvilus autocannon for destroying stubborn heavy infantry, or a potent neutron blaster for combating enemy armour or automata. 

Leman Russ battle tanks are incredibly versatile armoured assets, their turrets mounted with a variety of powerful weapons to overwhelm any foe that dares to oppose the Solar Auxilia. Exterminator autocannons produce a withering hail of fire to obliterate entire formations of enemy infantry, while the Annihilator variant excels at pinpoint lascannon strikes to slice through armoured columns.

The war which unfolded upon Tallarn in the middle years of the Horus Heresy was on a scale almost impossible to assess, a year-long conflict of ceaseless battle across a thousand fronts, where entire Titan Legios were broken and Imperialis Auxilia regiments rendered extinct.

The Shadowsword is the sister tank to the Baneblade, a super-heavy vehicle employed by Solar Auxilia cohorts to engage and destroy enemy macro-engines with its volcano cannon. The same chassis has also been adapted to mount different primary weapons suited to their own modes of destruction, like the bunker-busting Stormsword siege cannon or the versatile plasma blastgun of the Stormblade.

Cerastus Knights are purpose-built for war. Tall, agile and heavily armoured, they are the chosen steeds of high-ranking nobles of the Knight Households. When Cerastus Knights are fielded in number, they are a force to be reckoned with, and as much a show of status as a show of strength. Both the Castigator and Acheron configurations are brutal masters of destruction, wading into battle like gods of war.

The mysterious Mechanicum of the 31st Millennium marched to war armed with esoteric and arcane science, their hosts of battle-automata and cybernetic soldiers guided by the cold iron logic of their Tech-Priest overlords. Theirs was the technology that shaped the Imperium, and would aid in destroying it in the fires of rebellion.

Even in the Age of Darkness, the monumental architecture of the fledgling Imperium tends towards impressive edifices, a combination of baroque and gothic elements mixed with militaristic structures designed to stand in even the harshest environments.

Even in the glory days of the 31st Millennium, many worlds of the Imperium favoured a gothic aesthetic in their cities. Towering spires encrusted with gargoyles, domed roofs and vaulted windows featured heavily in their construction, lending the Imperium's colonies a distinctive look and feel.

The Warmaster Iconoclast Titan is a god-engine designed with a singular purpose – obliteration. Even its reactors have been modified for engaging the foe up close. Those few who know of the Iconoclast’s existence fear its arrival upon the battlefield, for the march of such a god-engine renders seemingly impenetrable armour into little more than an inconvenience. Where it treads, civilisations fall, nought but rubble left behind to mark their passing.

The Knight Castigator is a Household’s answer to hordes of lesser foes. Armed with the fearsome Castigator pattern bolt cannon, this Knight is capable of obliterating infantry formations in a thunderous rain of mass reactive explosions and whirling power blades, and carving apart light vehicles with ease. The Cerastus Knight Acheron is a fearsome sight on the battlefield, a reaper of lives carefully designed not only to destroy with flames, but also to inspire terror both in appearance and the manner in which it undertakes its grim task.

Knights Acastus are among the most heavily armed and armoured of all Knight chassis in service. Each is a symbol of favour by the lords of the Machine Cult and even the greatest Knight Households cannot claim more than a handful. The Knight Porphyrion variant is a towering behemoth possessed of size and power which rivals that of a Scout-class Titan, capable of sundering armoured formations, enemy fortifications and rival Knight armours with contemptuous ease.

Predators are perhaps the best-known and most widespread Legiones Astartes battle tanks. Augmented with superior armour and firepower, these strike vehicles sacrifice any troop transport capacity in favour of ammunition and generators for their formidable weapon systems. The result is an effective and versatile tank of the line, with an excellent balance of speed, firepower, and protection.

The Storm Eagle Assault Gunship is a dedicated tactical strike unit primarily used deployed in a Legion's orbital assault and for low-level ground attack. Rugged and durable, the power of the Storm Eagle lies in its versatility, serving capably as a long-range transport, orbital shuttle, scout and as an interceptor in addition to its primary roles.

The Xiphon is a void and atmosphere capable combat craft with an ancient lineage, with many unique variations on the base design encountered on lost human colonies across the galaxy. Potent and heavily armed, the Xiphon had largely fallen out of frontline service by the end of the Great Crusade – tens of thousands of retired aircraft were swiftly pressed into service once more with the outbreak of the Horus Heresy.

The Thunderbolt is a heavy fighter combining devastating strike potential with a high degree of speed and manoeuvrability. They form the bulk of the Imperialis Armada’s intra-atmosphere fighter aircraft. While the Thunderbolt's primary role is air superiority, its most famous characteristic, is sheer resilience – it is not unusual for a Thunderbolt to return to base with damage that would have downed a lesser craft.

The Avenger Strike Fighter is a superlative ground attack aircraft designed to operate alongside Solar Auxilia cohorts during planetary invasions. Named for its primary armament, the Avenger bolt cannon, the Avenger excels at performing strafing runs on enemy armoured formations, raking the vulnerable weaker sides of their armoured hulls with mass-reactive bolt shells. The Avenger can also be employed in the secondary role of interceptor, providing close air support for ground troops against enemy bomber squadrons.
